Celebrating its 5th fantastic year in 2009, the great blend of delectable food, music and fun attracts 600 people to the Courtyard at Marriott Fitchburg every Wednesday the week before Thanksgiving for the "event of the year"! This year, MOC's "Taste of North Central" will be held on Wednesday, November, 18th at the Courtyard by Marriott located conveniently on Route 31 in Fitchburg.
Last year's Taste of North Central showcased 35 of the best local restaurants in the region and proved that locally owned restaurants are an important part of the community. Sonoma, Gibbett Hill Restaurant, Lidio's Restaurant and Ixtapa Cantina Restaurant are just a few of the restaurants that participated. The restaurants are truly fantastic, offering dishes from veal osso busco and maple sweet potato scallop chowder to BBQ ribs and chocolate porter braised lamb shanks. There is something for everyone!
Billy Costa, host of NECN's TV Diner and Co-Host of KISS 108's Matty in the Morning Show will be returning as guest MC for the Fifth Annual "The Taste of North Central". Mr. Costa will be present that evening to highlight the participating restaurants and their delicious cuisine. Live and silent auction items will include gourmet dining experiences, vacation getaways and sports memorabilia.
This major event is paramount in MOC's continued effort to support the agency's mission to empower low-income individuals and families to achieve self-sufficiency and improve the quality of life by creating opportunities, providing advocacy and coordinating efforts to alleviate poverty. In 2008 alone, MOC provided assistance to approximately 20,000 individuals through direct services from its Divisions and Delegate Agencies. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Montachusett Opportunity Council's programs for children and families. A portion of the proceeds raised this year will create an emergency fund to help families cope with fuel and food costs this winter.
